FrenchFest Fun

Some time in June an entry form for the local business boules competition, part of Horsham’s FrenchFest, was sent to the office. We jumped at the chance to show off our throwing arms and, on Friday 15th July, five Wildwood members set off to Horsham town centre hoping to return champions.

Ash and Ruth stepped up for the first round competing against The Resident and Brock Taylor. Ash’s brilliant first throw secured Wildwood first-throw rights in the game proper, and set the bar for the rest of the round. After an intense and long match, Ruth and Ash playing a stunning round (with no practice might I add!), we had made it through to round two.

After a ten minute break to talk strategy, Shereen and Jeff collected their boules and got ready to take on Sainsbury’s. It was brutal boules. Sainsbury’s had obviously played before and had some tricks up their sleeves, mostly involving getting their boules closer to the jack than ours. Even with Shereen’s great throw winning one game, we were dumped out of round two.

So, this year we walk away with nothing, save the desire to start mentally and physically preparing for next year’s competition. We will be back in 2012, with a vengeance.
